While Nicole, Lesley and Cath were in New York for the Romance Writers of America conference I was at home working on Kiss of the Goblin Prince (2012). Working on the romance, specifically, to bring it more into focus.
So I was spending a lot of time thinking about romance and what it is and how to make it work on the page. What works in one story doesn’t work in another as every relationship is different.
But all have the first glance and shimmer of attraction and the delicate tension that builds between the characters, and the reader, as they anticipate what comes next.
What makes a romance work for you?

I agree with you - what is right in one story doesn't work in another one. So what makes a romance work for me is if it's right for the two characters.
I enjoy romances where the hero and heroine connect at the deepest level in spite of all the things that are keeping them apart.
