Taking care of the future me
Kaizen is a Japanese word for the concept of continuous improvement. It means using small, gradual improvements to make a change. I use it a lot in my working life and this site http://smallstepstobigchange.com/ applies the technique to writing. I subscribe to their regular emails and this week's email hit me right between the eyes.
Many of us live with the assumption that somehow we'll have more time in the future, that things that worry or distract us now will have been solved. So our natural response to this belief is to put off things to that time when we believe that we will be less busy. But the opposite happens. By not dealing with things today we add to the burden we have to carry in the future.
The best reason for setting realistic goals now and following through on them is that we are creating a better life for our future selves.
As a talented procrastinator of decades experience I think at last I've found a worthwhile reason for doing things now.

So true. You have to live your life for now…not the future.
